The episode began with a Japanese man running to his office, where he got a gun and unloaded it into an empty elevator. He was then confronted by an old man, whom he told that something called “Black Sky” was on its way to New York. The blind man then killed him.
At the office, Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) made it clear to Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and to Matthew “Matt” Murdock (Charlie Cox) that he believed that the man in the mask had indeed caused the recent explosions in Hell’s Kitchen. Karen then left as she had a prior appointment, and Matt opted to stay behind as he was reading a document, which informed him that Leland Owlsley (Bob Gunton) worked for a firm called Silver and Brent.
At a parking garage, Leland informed Nobu (Peter Shinkoda) that everything was in order, and informed him that he knew that Nobu was bringing in a big shipment that night. After Nobu left, Matt, as the vigilante confronted Leland, but got tazed as he got distracted as he had noticed that someone familiar- Stick (Scott Glenn), his old mentor, was there as well.
Matt then remembered how Stick had told him not to be sorry for himself, and after asking about his newly acquired senses, asked if he was ready to be trained to use his senses to fight for survival. He then told Matt that he was going to train him for a war which they were fighting, but never explained it to him.
Meanwhile, Karen met Ben Urich (Vondie Curtis-Hall) at the docks, who told her that Union Allied, the Russians, The Triads, the Yakuza, and the explosions might be connected to each other. Before she left, he told her to be extra careful and vigilant.
Matt brought Stick to his apartment, which Stick criticized, as he felt that Matt was too soft, and was too attached to material things, and told him to cut his friends lose or else they would suffer and die, but Matt refused to do so.
Matt then remembered that while trying to control his rage when it came to fighting during their training, Matt (Skylar Gaertner) had revealed that he blamed himself for his father’s death. But Stick had just told him to get up and fight, just like they were doing now. He also told Matt that he was soft as he hadn’t killed anyone yet in his vendetta.
After getting out of an arm lock of Stick’s, Stick asked for his help to get rid of a weapon that Nobu was bringing in called “Black Sky” and promised that no one would get hurt.
Meanwhile, after Karen learned some information from Mrs. Elena Cardenas (Judith Delgado), who also told her that Foggy liked her, she was attacked by the men Elena described. Thankfully, she was saved by Foggy and his baseball bat.
At the docks, Matt quietly took out the guards with the two sticks that his mentor had given him. After realizing that Black Sky (Bonale Fambrini) was a child, he stopped Stick’s arrow from killing him. After realizing that Stick was gone, Matt remembered how after a training session one day, Stick had decided to leave after Matt gave him a paper bracelet he had made out of the wrapper of ice cream that they had when they first met. Upset, Matt fought off the remaining men.
Upon arriving at his apartment, he fought with Stick, who told him that Black Sky wasn’t human, and that he had killed him in Nobu’s getaway car. After Matt defeated him, effectively trashing the entire apartment, Stick told him that he still had hope in him, and left him the two sticks he had used earlier that night.
At Urich’s office, Karen and Urich showed Foggy their board, and told him that all of the criminal elements were connected to one man, and that the vigilante was working against the “king of diamonds”.
Meanwhile, as Matt cleaned up his apartment, he discovered that Stick had left behind the bracelet he had made, which meant that he had cared about him.
Later, Stick informed Stone (Jason Finney) that Black Sky had been eliminated and that he didn’t know if Matt would be ready when “the doors were opened”.
