For months, fans have been waiting eagerly to get first look at Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Elodie Young’s Elektra on the new season of Netflix and MARVEL’s “Daredevil.” Thankfully, just as the year ends, fans now finally have a glimpse at both characters. Aside from this, the new showrunners have also recently come out to tell fans and viewers what to expect in the upcoming season. WARNING: This article will contain spoilers for Netflix and MARVEL’s “Daredevil.”
The first season of Netflix and MARVEL’s “Daredevil” managed to set the stage for things to come. It took its time explaining and introducing the characters and this new world to the viewers.
At the same time, it managed to meld itself seamlessly into the MARVEL Cinematic Universe as it is today.
Thanks to that, showrunner Doug Petrie and new showrunner Marco Ramirez were able to bring things in season two in hyperdrive, especially when it comes to narrative.
According to a recent interview that Entertainment Weekly had with the pair when they visited the set of “Daredevil,” Petrie and Ramirez both mentioned that as the “Daredevil” world had already been established, they were able to do things like introduce Frank Castle or the Punisher (Jon Bernthal) right away.
Entertainment Weekly was also able to get an exclusive picture of the Punisher standing in front of a helpless Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), in his red Daredevil costume, tied up to several hollow blocks with chains.
They also managed to talk a little bit to Bernthal, who stated that he felt pressured to do the character justice. It was especially as the Punisher’s character resonates in the hearts and minds of veterans and former soldiers.
With regards to the dynamic between the two, Petrie and Ramirez mentioned the fact that the two are very different from each other.
Murdock is a Catholic, albeit a lapsed one, and has a strict moral code, while the Punisher, whose moral code is akin to Hammurabi’s Law, shoots first, and doesn’t ask questions later.
Aside from exploring the dichotomy between the two, the showrunners also teased that the sets will be a little bit more brightly lit, but it will be grittier than the first season.
Entertainment Weekly also managed to get an exclusive first look at Elodie Yung’s Elektra, who, in the picture, is seen seated on a couch, without her twin sai and her usual red costume.
She will be adding onto Murdock’s moral dilemmas, as she is everything that Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), who is now together with Murdock, isn’t.
According to the showrunners, Elektra releases the more animal side of Daredevil, who is all about mastery and control of himself and his senses.
However, fans of the comics are looking forward to seeing how she will be presenting the iconic character, as her take on Elektra will be a far cry from Jennifer Garner’s iteration in the Ben Affleck 2003 “Daredevil” film.
