In less than twenty four hours, a space opera based on the Dark Horse comic “Dark Matter” will premiere at 10:00 PM on SyFy. In line with this, Spoiler TV has released several featurettes regarding the cast and crew as well as a new promotional video. Read on to learn more about this exciting new series from SyFy.
In the first of the two most recent promotional videos posted on Spoiler TV, the first four crew members stood in the bay area as they watched the fifth member of the crew wake up. A little bit later on, One, the first one who woke up questioned Two, also known as Boss Lady, with regards to why she should be the leader of the group, given the fact they had no idea who they were. However, Two told One that she was just doing her job, especially as no one else seemed to step up to the plate. However, she also kicked and flung him aside.
Spoiler TV also released several promotional videos regarding each character and cast member, along with a special interview with one of the show’s creators, John Mallozzi, who together with Paul Mullie, created the comic “Dark Matter”.
According to the featurette on the character of One, portrayed by Marc Bendavid, One is described as the “moral center” of the group. In everything that he does, he is well intentioned, but is often misguided, and a little bit clumsy as there are a lot of skills he doesn’t have. Bendavid describes his character as someone who is “halfway” to becoming an actual hero. Mallozzi also mentioned that Bendavid brought a particular vulnerability to the character which they played up, and which created an interesting dynamic with Two (Melissa O’ Neil).
Two, on the other hand is the “de facto leader” of the group, as she instinctively leads the crew, and the rest instinctively follow her, which, according Melissa O’ Neil, says a lot about the dynamic of the crew, even though their memories have been erased. Mallozzi also went on to say that what was wonderful about Melissa was that she did most of her stunts, which allowed them to have more freedom with regards to what could be done.
Three, portrayed by actor Anthony Lemke, is described as the “resident bad boy” who does things impulsively, and who says what’s on his mind, which makes him the least popular member of the crew. Among everyone in the crew, his character is the character that one isn’t sure of the reason why he is there to begin with. Mallozzi praised Lemke’s sense of humor, which is what won him the role in the first place.
Alex Mallari Jr. plays the role of Four, a warrior, and a swordsman, whose character, according to Mallozzi, pays tribute to the swordsman in space archetype present in most science fiction anime. According to Mallozzi, Mallari nailed the audition as he managed to really get the low key but unnerving aura that Four should have.
Five, is portrayed by Jodelle Ferland, who worked with Mallozzi before in one of the “Stargate” franchise shows. According to Mallozzi, Five is a key character surrounding the mystery of why and how they came to be there in the middle of nowhere to begin with.
Actor Roger Cross portrays Six, who, according to Mallozzi, is the strong and silent character who is just as level headed as Two. He is a mercenary, and has a close relationship with Five, who, according to Mallozzi, Six treats as a younger sister.
The last character in the crew is the Android, portrayed by Zoie Palmer. According to Mallozzi, the character of the Android was originally male in the comics, but opened up the audition to all genders. Mallozzi says that Zoie brings a quirkiness that will make her character well loved by children and fans of science fiction and of “Dark Matter”. Zoie describes the Android as a “slightly socially inept friend”, who is awkward, but is more intelligent than the entire crew, and who knows that she can’t really fit in with them.
And that was all for the first look into the crew members of SyFy’s “Dark Matter”. For more updates, spoilers and news on “Dark Matter” and other television shows, keep on following Movie News Guide (MNG).
