David Beckham was recently announced as People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive of 2015. It’s undeniable that one of the factors that make the sportsman smoking hot is his body art.
Beckham was never one to be reserved about his tattoos. In a recent interview, he shared five of his favorites, where they are located, and what they mean to him.
The former LA Galaxy star has a resting angel with the motto “In the face of adversity” above it on his left shoulder. This being one of several biblical symbols, that often represents his wife, Victoria and the kids. “The family ones obviously mean a lot to me,” he said.
In 1999, after Brooklyn’s birth, Beckam had his eldest child’s name tattooed on his lower back. Names of his sons Romeo and Cruz bracket a sizeable angel, while the only rose among the thorns; Harper is represented with a neck tattoo.
David Beckham discloses, “The ones on my hands I like the most”, with “Dream big, be unrealistic,” on his right knuckles. Sounds familiar? Yes, these are lyrics from Beyoncé and Jay Z’s 2014 “On the Run” tour. Atop it is Victoria’s name and on his thumb, “99” is the year they got married. How sweet!
“Let them hate as long as they fear,” a reference from the Roman emperor Caligula, will be found below another angel on his left arm.
Beckham also has the painting by artist Matthew R. Brooks, called “Man of Sorrows” found on his side. This is an accolade for his grandfather Joe West, who passed away in 2009.
“Many people have said to me, ‘When you’re 60, how is it gonna look?” David Beckham simply answered, “I’m not even worried about it.”
One question comes to mind, are his children allowed to get body art? According to Victoria, “When Dad is covered in tattoos, you can’t really tell Brooklyn he can’t get one”. When the time comes that their eldest decides he wants to get ink done, “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.” she said.
