The year 2014 seems to be the year of David Oyelowo. After being recognized for his role in “Selma,” the actor might star along with Lupita Nyong’o in the movie “Americanah.” Read on for further details.

According to an article on Variety, David Oyelowo may be included in the cast of the indie drama “Americanah” together with Lupita Nyong’o.

Oyelowo has recently appeared in “A Most Violent Year,” “Interstellar” and “Selma.” He has received a Golden Globe nomination as Best Actor in a Drama for his portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in “Selma,” for which Oyelowo commented, “I always knew that if I was ever going to conquer the role, it was more about the quiet ones and less about the bigger ones.”

Nyong’o was known for her role as the lead in the MTV series “Shuga” in 2009. In 2014, Nyong’o won her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Steve McQueen’s “12 Years a Slave” in 2013, where she played the role of Patsey.

“When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every child, no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid,” said Nyong’o during her heartfelt speech upon receiving her award.

“Americanah” is based on the award-winning novel by Chimamanda Ngoza Adichie. The novel has won several awards such as 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, one of NY Times’ Ten Best Books of the Year, The Chicago Tribune 2013 Heartland Prize for Fiction and Goodreads Best of the Year among others.

“Americanah” centers on the story of Ifemelu and Obinze, a young couple from Nigeria who experience struggles in life while keeping their relationship intact. Ifemelu migrates to America where she “is forced to grapple with what it means to be black for the first time.” Obinze decides to live an undocumented life in London. The two reunite 15 years later in Nigeria, and they try to reignite the flame in their relationship as they re-adjust to their lives back to their hometown.

The movie will be produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B production banner, with Nyong’o and Andrea Calderwood also producing.
