After almost a year of waiting, “Defiance” returns on June 19, 2014. The Syfy’s hit “intermedia” series heads back to its home network for Season 2. The series will continue to feature a transformed Earth with human beings and various alien forms living in the same planet. Unfortunately, the battle on who’s gaining the power and control continues.
Set in the city-state of “Defiance,” former Marine Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler) heads one of the independent republics in North America after a ceasefire agreement has been made between the Earth and Votans. He now lives with his adopted alien daughter, Irisa Nyira (Stephanie Leonidas).
According to Spoiler TV, “Defiance” Season 2 will pick up after Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler) lost Irisa. She mysteriously disappeared during the suspense-filled cliffhanger from the “Defiance” Season 1 Finale Episode 13 “Everything is Broken” (air date: July 8, 2013).
Nolan will continue on his search for her lost daughter. His journey will be a way of stumbling upon vital information. It was reported that it might risk his own life. Nolan will take on another route to south after learning about the fruitful news. What could it be about? Will it lead him to Irisa?
Syfy previously released a series of webisodes entitled “Defiance: The Lost Ones.” It was said that it served as a “bridge” for the upcoming Season 2 with the end of the Season 1 finale. The webisodes showed Nolan’s risky journey on finding Irisa while fending of the bad guys in a dangerous location.
In an interview with TV Guide, series creator Kevin Murphy teased about the new faces in the upcoming “Defiance” episode. True to its title, it seemed that there’s nothing good but chaos happening in Defiance.
Datak Tarr (Tony Curran) was stripped off his position as the mayor of the Earth Republic. In his place, newly appointed Mayor Niles Pottinger (James Murray) will start to attain power for them. He is joined by his ruthless commanding officer, Viceroy Mercado (William Atherton).
The new controlling duo will tap E-Rep soldier Jessica “Berlin” Rai. Known for being a documentarian, she is ordered to create and produce propaganda films for the new government’s “positive image.” Murphy also told that Berlin’s goal is to bring the peace to the chaotic republic. Can she really help the residents of Defiance? Will she just be a pawn for the E-Rep for more chaos?
“This new world is terrifying and dangerous, and Berlin is the voice of the disenfranchised people,” said Murphy in the TV Guide article.
And that’s it for the “Defiance” spoilers about Season 2 Premiere Episode 1 “The Opposite of Hallelujah.” It will air on Thursday, June 17, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. on Syfy.
