“Defiance” Season 2 Episode 3 “The Cord and the Ax” aired on July 3, 2014. It was directed by Michael Nankin and written by Alison Miller. The episode started with the meeting of Alak (Jesse Rath) and Diedre Lamb in her new job as a local DJ. They made out at first until Alak knew about his secret affair with Skevur. After attacking and threatening her, Alak left to join his mother to visit Rafe (Graham Greene). At Rafe’s home, Stahma (Jaime Murray) learned that Christie (Nicole Munoz) is pregnant, and Alak was expecting to have his very own family. Alak told Datak (Tony Curran) about the great news on his visit to the Camp Reverie. Stahma plotted about keeping Datak behind bars for good. She also gave Alak a Casti-made laser knife that Datak previously owned.
Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas) continued to have blackouts. Irisa was in her Irizu form when she accidentally killed Bertie (Jessica Nichols), who came to shop for her groceries. It seemed that she was doing it for too long that Nolan (Grant Bowler) asked everyone about Irisa’s whereabouts. When she came back, Nolan got angry over her being secretive from him. Nolan, on the other hand, continued to be a worried father for Irisa. He even asked for Mayor Niles Pottinger’s (James Murray) help in finding out what happened to Irisa and Bertie. Niles agreed to check out the security footages. They saw Irisa creeping behind Bertie before a mysterious surge happened before they could see everything in the footages.
Meanwhile, Mayor Pottinger used Dc Ywell’s (Trenna Keating) severed finger in opening a secret safe. He offered Ywell freedom in exchange of helping him on his dark plans. Ywell agreed, but it got Datak angry. Pottinger also acknowledged his liking of Amanda (Julie Benz), who currently struggled with her addiction. Nolan rushed to their home to learn more about Irisa’s secret. He knew that Irisa might hurt Bertie. He also told Tommy (Dewshane Williams) that he found Liberata’s blood on one of Irisa’s gloves. Elsewhere, Irisa came to see Sukar for help. Sukar told Irisa that he knew about her problem. The episode ended with Irisa killing Sukar (Noah Danby) in her vision.
