According to Billboard, Lovato showed musical support behind the former Olympic gold medalist while singing “Warrior” at Vector Arena. The singer also told the audience that she did not know who Jenner was until reality TV show, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”.
“Let’s be honest, neither did you. But I just want to dedicate this song…It’s so cheesy that I’m even doing this, but whatever. I want to dedicate it to someone who became an even bigger hero last night—Bruce Jenner!” Lovato said to the audience during her concert.
The singer also admitted to the audience that she never thought she’d be dedicating a song to Jenner. However, Lovato said that after he opened up his honest story to the world, he might have saved lives and even educated people about his choice to transform into a woman. Before starting her ballad, Lovato added, “So, yeah, I just want to dedicate it to Bruce Jenner.”
Lovato started singing, “Now, I’m a warrior. I got thicker skin. I’m a warrior. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been.”
Jenner, Kim, who is Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian’s stepdad, admitted during an interview with Diane Sawyer, that he has been struggling with gender identity issues since he was a little boy.
During the interview, Jenner told Sawyer that people see him as a different person. He also said that although people look at him as a macho male, he still felt a female side is a part of him. Furthermore, Jenner said that although this is how he felt, he was not genetically born that way.
Meanwhile, Lovato is no stranger to Bruce Jenner and his family. Lovato has credited Kim Kardashian, who she said helped her during her days in rehab four years ago, in an interview with Billboard in 2011. Lovato said that Kim was like her big sister and would always call her while she was in rehab along with Selena Gomez.
