Derrick Rose has been traded to New York Knicks in a multi-player swap deal with his home team Chicago Bulls. He is one of the five players who have been under the deal. The teams have swapped players in hopes of a better upcoming season.

ESPN reports that New York Knicks traded Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon and Jerian Grant to Chicago Bulls. In turn, Chicago Bulls sent Derrick Rose, Justin Holiday and a 2017 second round pick to the Knicks.

Derrick Rose was very emotional about leaving his home team which had given him all the best memories of his life, but he also wanted to have the big platform of Knicks, reported a close source of Rose. The source further added that Rose’s first choice after his home team decided to trade him was Knicks as he wanted the attention directed towards him.

Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said that the decision of trading Rose was not easy for the team either. The MVP player and native is loved by almost everyone in the team and his homeland. Reinsdorf said that in addition to being a tremendous basketball player, Derrick Rose is also a very good person with a big heart.

It was in the reports earlier that Knicks were considering the option of acquiring Rose as they were looking for a strong point guard this season.

Chicago Tribune reported that Derrick Rose has been battling injuries ever since he was nominated as the MVP player in 2010-11 season. But he has shown signs of improvement in 2016. His injuries have also had an adverse effect on his fan base. After his ACL tear and two knee surgeries, his fan base had thinned from what it had been after he was awarded the MVP title.

Derrick Rose’s 2016 records are not that bad after all. With an average of 17.7 points, 45.3 percent shooting from the field and 55.3 percent shooting on the drives, he is a good pick as a point guard for the Knicks which has seen lower performance averages by their point guards.

Derrick Rose will be a free agent after the 2016-17 season and owes $21.3 million in the final year of his contract.

Bulls general manager Gar Forman said that the team was ready to explore all options to improve performance and this trade is a part of that effort. All the young players acquired by this trade will enhance the performance of the team.

Derrick Rose has got a new team and new companions and will hopefully have a better career record too!
