Director Brad Bird who has “The Iron Giant”, “Ratatouille” and “Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol” among his credits, has confirmed that he is working on “The Incredibles” sequel. The sequel named “The Incredibles 2” will be Brad Bird’s next film following “Tomorrowland,” which is set to release on May 22, 2015 and has Bird as director, producer, screenplay and story writer. Read on.
“The Incredibles” sequel was announced by Disney CEO and Chairman, Bob Iger in Mar. 2014. Bird was confirmed to be returning as a writer. Samuel L. Jackson will likely be reprising his role as Frozone in the sequel.
“The Incredibles,” which had story and direction by Bird, had many acclamations in its kitty. It became first Pixar movie to receive more than 1 Oscar. “The Incredibles” received 2 Oscars, one for Best Animated Feature, and another for Best Sound Editing. Worldwide, the film grossed $631,442,092 and became the fifth highest-grossing Pixar film.
When asked about “The Incredibles 2,” Bird told Collider.com that he had many ideas for the first one too. He couldn’t get the time to execute them given the time constraint but for the sequel, he has new ideas and the previous ideas modified.
Bird informed that he has a “bunch of pages” already written for the sequel. Looks like, after “Tomorrowland,” Bird will be “playing with the Incredibles sandbox again.”
Apart, from the sequel to “The Incredibles,” Bird will be most likely coming onboard as director for “Star Wars: Episode VII.” He was approached previously to take on the Star Wars franchise movie by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, but Bird at that time really wanted to work for “Tomorrowland.” He did consider the project but later dropped “Star Wars: Episode VII” as it was not physically possible for him to work on both the projects.
Well, looks like he may as well consider taking on “Star Wars: Episode VII” as Josh Trank is no longer directing it.
