WB/DC has been steadily shaping up their universe. After announcing a number of movies in their universe, many of them are slowly progressing ahead.
Green Lantern Corps is one of them. Though the movie has not locked in the two male leads, a potential director is already being eyed.
Rupert Wyatt for Green Lantern Corps
Screen Rant reported that Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt is being eyed to helm the emerald knight’s solo movie in DCEU. The in-development movie has been in the news for its casting choices but this one indicates that the studio wants him to oversee the project.
This is not the first superhero project the director has been attached with. Previously he was attached to direct The Gambit for Fox but eventually stepped down.
It should also be noted that The Gambit in 2011 was his last big hit, which would now put a major responsibility on his shoulder if he were to be confirmed.
Other movies directed by him
Wyatt being eyed for Green Lantern Corps could be a good thing considering the kind of movies that he has helmed. Apart from Rise of the Planet of the Apes, he has directed movies like The Gambler, The Escapist and Subterrain.
He is also known for making a short movie called Get the Picture. Green Lantern Corps has been described as Lethal Weapon in space, which would give quite the interesting material for Wyatt to work with.
About Green Lantern Corps movie
Above all other DC movies, this is one movie that will be the most important for the studio. The only reason for that is the colossal flop that Green Lantern was.
The Ryan Reynolds starrer even today is considered one of the worst superhero movies ever made. So with making a movie like Green Lantern Corps, the studio will only have one thing in mind.
It would be to redeem themselves in the eyes of the fans and finally give the superhero a proper movie. They have been doing everything to make sure that the movie gets the proper treatment it deserves.
Green Lantern’s cameo in DCEU
Before the ring wielding Emerald knight can officially get re-introduced in the DC universe, one of the Green Lanterns is expected to have a cameo in this year’s Justice League.
It has not been revealed which Green Lantern will show up in the ensemble, but it can be expected that this Lantern’s appearance will somehow set up Hal Jordan, the most popular Green Lantern’s story in DCEU.
Since Jordan is in DCEU, reports have indicated that Abin Sur, the Lantern whose ring he inherited could be the one making an appearance. If the alien Lantern makes an appearance, it would perfectly set up the beginning of Jordan’s story.
This set up could then continue in Green Lantern Corps, his first solo adventure. The solo movie could also then lead to Justice League Part Two in which he is rumored to be joining the superhero team.
Plot and release date
As mentioned above Green Lantern Corps is being projected as Lethal Weapon in space. Along with Jordan, there will also be John Stewart in the movie.
Both the Lanterns will work as a team and police the universe. Reports have also revealed that Stewart will be the younger Lantern who will get trained by Jordan on how to be a good Green Lantern.
With the movie essentially set in outer space, it could truly take fans to an area where none of the DC movie has ever gone. Green Lantern Corps is expected to release in July 2020.
