Disney hasn’t been making many noises with their projects these days apart from Pixar’s “Big Hero 6” that’s due to come out in theaters in a few weeks. That may be the case, but one can also consider their bombastic subsidiary, that is, Marvel Studios, which has been the most talked about studio in Hollywood to date. They got “Avengers: Age of Ultron” coming next year, along with the promise of Civil War for “Captain America 3.” But whatever happened to their fairytale-esque projects? Here is where “Into the Woods” comes in, and they are bringing all of their fairytale stories into one musical medium. The award-winning Broadway stage musical movie adaptation is helmed by “Chicago’s” Rob Marshall, along with the creative collaboration of the original stage show’s writers James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim, released an all-new featurette for the upcoming film with the underlying theme — be careful what you wish for.
Screen Rant reports that this all-new featurette is offering glimpses of the fantasy film, both the cinematic and behind-the-scenes. Cast members like Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine and production maestros Rob Marshall and Stephen Sondheim share pieces of information about what the creative medium is all about. Each character is highlighted in the way their story unfolds throughout the duration of the movie, therefore catching a glimpse of Depp’s Wolf to the Little Red Riding Hood sequence. The writers worked together to create “an extravagant musical fantasy with a probing (and thematically-rich) character study drama that makes Into the Woods not just a clever mashup of centuries-old famous fairy tales, but a meaningful fairy tale in its own right.”
“Be careful what you wish for.” “Into the Woods” offers a profuse fusion of the beloved Brothers Grimm Fairytales with the way it intertwines all the storyline’s elements towards character development, showing how each character’s choice leads to unprecedented consequences. By Comic Book Movie, the film follows the archetypal stories of Cinderella played by Anna Kendrick, Little Red Riding Hood by Lilla Crawford, Jack and the Beanstalk with Daniel Huttlestone and Rapunzel by MacKenzie Mauzy. They are all communed by a stronghold tale involving a baker and his wife, played by James Corden and Emily Blunt respectively, with their wish to begin a family and their involvement with the witch, creatively portrayed by Meryl Streep, who bestows a curse on them.
“Into the Woods” opens in theaters on Dec. 25, 2014.
