“Divergent” was a huge hit starring Shailene Woodley who plays Tris Prior and she will be a mainstay in all of the sequels. The movie being a hit made Woodley an overnight star, too! So, what’s the latest news on its sequels? Well, the buzz its that the last movie in the “Divergent” trilogy which is “Allegiant,” will be split into two movies.

Lionsgate announced the news about “Allegiant,” which follows several movie franchises that did the same on their final installment such as “Harry Potter” and “The Twilight Saga” films.

The first part of “Allegiant” will reportedly be released on March 18, 2016 while the second  part will be shown on March 24, 2017.

According to Entertainment Weekly (EW), Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger released a statement about “Allegiant.”

“Veronica Roth brings her captivating story to a masterful conclusion in ‘Allegiant,’ a rich, action-packed book with material that is ideally suited to two strong and fulfilling movies,” said Friedman and Wachsberger in the statement published in the EW report.

“The storytelling arc and world of the characters lend themselves perfectly to two films, a storytelling strategy that worked very well for us on the two ‘Twilight Breaking Dawn’ films and about which we’re tremendously enthusiastic for the two upcoming ‘Mockingjay’ films of ‘The Hunger Games’ franchise,” they added.

Current records from the Box Office Mojo show that “Divergent” has earned $125,426,736 in  the domestic box office and $175,726,736  worldwide! Fans can expect the second installment, “Insurgent” on March 20, 2015. It is directed by Robert Schwentke. Production for the second installment will start in Atlanta in May 2014.

The whole “Divergent” series will run through four years, which means that fans can expect four years of action-packed films that they can look forward to.
