The fates of Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) hang in the balance as the movie adaptation of Veronica Roth’s best-selling young-adult series, Divergent. However, book fans can rejoice. The American novelist just announced that a new book from the franchise is heading to the market alongside her newest novel, Carve the Mark.
Warning: Allegiant book spoilers ahead!
Four After Tris in Divergent Series
Roth announced the extension through a video on Twitter earlier this week. She revealed that the title of the new book is We Can Be Mended. It serves as an epilogue to the Divergent Series.
“I’ve always said that the Divergent series felt complete to me but a little while ago, I realized there’s still some of the stories that are left untold,” she explained. “So, I wrote something just for myself about what Tobias have been up to in the years after Allegiant.

The story will center on one of the most beloved characters in the young-adult genre, Tobias Eaton a.k.a. Four. It will continue following the death of the book series’ protagonist, Tris Prior.
The book will not be for sale but will be a freebie for fans who will pre-order Carve the Mark. Her publisher realized that the people who buy the sci-fi novel were also fans of her best-selling dystopian series. As a thank you, they get the epilogue of the Divergent books.
From a Post-Apocalyptic World to Space
Carve the Mark is set on a distant planet where everyone develops a unique power that can shape the future. While most reap the benefits of their currentgifts, two characters – Akos and Cyra – do not.
Cyra is sister to the tyrant ruler of the Shotet people. Her currentgift enables her brother to use her to torture his enemies.
Meanwhile, Akos is loyal to his hometown Thuvhe and a loving nation. He has an unusual currentgift. However, he could not protect his brother after the enemy forces from Shotet captured the latter.
“When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable,” the synopsis reads. “They must decide to help each other to survive—or to destroy one another.”
Pre-order a copy of Carve the Mark to receive the Divergent series epilogue, We Can Be Mended. The sci-fi novel arrives on local and online bookstores on Jan 17.
