The Marvel Cinematic Universe is slowly but constantly expanding with multiple film and character crossovers. The box office reception on “Captain America: Civil War” clearly shows that fans cannot wait for more crossovers to happen. The First time it happened was during “The Avengers” which, like “Civil War,” gained a big fan base and a multi-million earnings worldwide.
Unlike most Marvel films that stars a regular Joe that will eventually turn into a super hero, Scott Derrickson’s “Doctor Strange” will showcase more of the magical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Screen Rant, the film promises mind bending visuals that will expand the universe even more. Benedict Cumberbatch will lead the movie alongside Benedict Wong who is known for playing roles in Danny Boyle’s “Sunshine,” “Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” and “The Martian.”
Convenient enough, Benedict will play Wong in the upcoming “Doctor Strange.” Wong’s character is described in the comics as a sidekick and valet to Stephen Strange. He is also mentioned to be a master of Martial Arts.
On a recent Interview with Den of Geek, Benedict Wong discussed his character and the new direction it is doing in the film. Unlike in the comics where he was doing martial arts and a man servant to Strange, he said he will be more of a drill sergeant. The character will not be doing any kind of martial arts, he noted.
What is more different from the comics is that the character in the comics, although he came from a long line of warrior monks and protectors, was often seen as diminutive. In the film, it was noted that he will play a bigger role in training Dr. Strange as he go through the magical realm.
Benedict Wong also hinted his desire for his character to show up in future Marvel movies. Maybe the reception he will get from this upcoming film will decide if he gets signed to participate more in the expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
