‘Doctor Strange’ Update: Joaquin Phoenix Loss Becomes Benedict Cumberbatch
Doctor Strange

It seems that one among the very well known faces of the Hollywood industry is going to regret his decision for leaving the role which is now accepted by the Emmy winner Benedict Cumberbatch aka our very own “Sherlock.” Yes, Joaquin Phoenix aka Commodus of “Gladiator” was the first choice of the makers for playing the lead role in upcoming movie adaptation of the famous comic “Doctor Strange.’”Though, Phoenix defended his views for leaving the film for Cumberbatch.

Joaquin Phoenix, who has many important movies attached to his name till date, said that since always he liked to play a character in which he gets complete freedom, he doesn’t believe in following step-by-step instructions to play a character and this is why he turned down this offer.

“When I was younger I was probably a bit of a snob about [taking on blockbuster roles]. But they’ve gotten better. I’ve flirted with several of those films, having meetings and getting close, but ultimately it never felt like they’d really be fulfilling. There were too many requirements that went against my instincts for character,” Phoenix stated for not accepting roles in potential box office hits to Slash Film.

“The Notebook” fame Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, who famously played as the White Witch of “The Chronicles of Narnia” series, and Oscar-nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor of “12 Years a Slave” are included in the final cast list of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie which is said to be based on the origin of the fictional Doctor story. However, Mads Mikkelsen’s name is also in the picture for playing a very important role opposite Cumberbatch but no official confirmation has come yet from the side of the “Hannibal” fame actor or the MCU.

Well, we can’t say much on Phoenix’s decision for not doing Doctor Strange but one thing is sure that leaving a lead role is really a very brave decision for an actor. “Doctor Strange” with Nov/ 4, 2016 as release date is making its base stronger day by day including new and happening faces to its team and we hope soon we will get confirmation from the side of the studio of Mikkelsen’s name too. Till then, let us wish good luck to all of them.
