Don Cheadle, the critically acclaimed actor and producer, has acquired the rights to Shane White’s biography. It is titled Prince of Darkness: The Untold Story of Jeremiah G. Hamilton which is a truly inspirational story of a black man.

Cheadle is said to have obtained the rights for both film and television. Nothing has been announced about the film as of this writing, but it seems that the book will be the starring vehicle for both of them. Moreover, no cast members have been finalized but it is speculated that Cheadle will star in the film.

All About Prince of Darkness

Shane White’s book centers on the life of Jeremiah G. Hamilton, the only African American broker of Wall Street. However, despite his huge success in business, he was never considered an icon. He was literate, successful, and went on to become one of the wealthiest persons of those times.

According to the book of White, it is stated that Hamilton’s birth details were contradictory. His death certificate states that he was born in West Indies and his parents were residents of Port-au-Prince. However, some other articles mentioned that he was born in Richmond, Virginia but there’s no proof of it.

He took his first steps in the business at the age of 21 as he ran a hefty cargo of forged coins from Canada to Haiti for some American merchants. Hamilton was caught for the offense of counterfeiting which was liable to be punished, though he managed to escape from there on a vessel which was going to New York.

He made huge money shortly after the Great Fire of 1835 and invested a lot in real estate. Hamilton was making money from Wall Street, real estate, and insurance at the same time. He gained huge popularity after taking control of Accessory Transit Company which was run by the 1850s business tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt. They both are remembered as the biggest rivals of that era.

White’s book also describes Hamilton life in two worlds—one as the influential Wall Street Broker while the other one as a second class citizen. After work, he lived like others who were victims of racism. But, Hamilton was no ordinary man as broke social stigmas of that era and married a white woman and owned railway stocks, in which, ironically, he was not allowed to travel. Indeed, there are so many remarkable things that have happened in his life and they can finally be carved out on screen.
