Donna Vekic focuses her concentration on her career at the Odlum Brown VanOpen tennis tournament as per the schedule. It seems that the Croatian tennis player is strong enough in spite of the remarks made by Nick Kyrgios during Rogers Cup in Montreal. Read on for more details.
The Province reported that during the last week’s Rogers Cup in Montreal, the Australian tennis player, who was playing against the Swiss star Stan Wawrinka, made some remarks about the Swiss star’s girlfriend Vekic.
“(Thanasi) Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend, sorry to tell you that, mate,” said the Aussie player in the heat of the crossover match. Unfortunately, the words he said was picked up by an on-court microphone and brought Wawrinka’s girlfriend Donna Vekic under the spotlight.
Immediately, the tennis world went wild over the undignified remark made by Kyrgios. Both Kokkinakis, as well as, Wawrinka was upset. Indeed, the most upset one was Vekic.
“You can’t be doing that,” stated Kokkinakis to express his ill feeling as well as to put an end to Kyrgios’s false remarks. Kokkinakis admitted that Kyrgios has apologized to him. However, he feels that the apology does not wash his disrespectful remarks. It was until he also apologizes to Vekic.
On the other hand, Wawrinka tweeted that the tennis authorities should take action against Kyrgios’ ill-mannered behavior. In fact, Kyrgios was fined $12,500 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
“It’s not easy but I’m trying to focus on tennis and my next match,” Vekic said. She has not come out with her thoughts regarding Kyrgios’ remarks. But, she retweeted Wawrinka’s tweet.
However, in spite of being upset by Kyrgios’ remarks and the Kyrgios controversy, the 19-year-old Croatian tennis player Vekic is not going to hide in Vancouver. She would play at the Odlum Brown VanOpen tennis tournament as scheduled.
