“Downton Abbey” Season 5 wrapped up with a cliffhanger. Read on to learn more about the Season 5 finale.
Rose and Atticus were ready to walk down the aisle, but before they say their “I do’s,” they went through a few hurdles first. This wasn’t a surprise knowing that Atticus’ father was against his son’s marriage to Rose, specifically because of religion. Rose’s parents, Shrimpie and Susan, were there to “support” their daughter, but at the same time, they were also facing some issues in their marriage.
During their dinner, things got awkward when Lord Sinderby rattled on how much he disapproves of the upcoming marriage and even said something about divorces. A bachelor party also happened, which was clearly a set up. Atticus was followed by a woman who tried to seduce him and someone took a picture of them and sent it to Rose. He confronted his father right away, thinking that it was him who was behind that. It was later on confirmed that it wasn’t Lord Sinderby, but it was actually Susan, Rose’s mother. She wasn’t up for the marriage because she doesn’t want her daughter to be an outcast.
That was also the perfect time for her to announce that she’s getting a divorce. The good news was after all those obstacles, Atticus and Rose still said their “I do’s.”
Prince Kuragin unexpectedly went to Downton to visit the Dowager Countess and proposed that she goes with him. The countess didn’t answer, and it was very clear that she was overwhelmed with so much emotions.
Edith was happy now that she’s back in Downton with her daughter. Tom didn’t miss this and figured out that Marigold was Edith’s daughter. He told Cora about this, and Cora confirmed his suspicions but told him that Mary or Tom need not know about this.
As for Lady Mary, she’s experiencing quite a handful of changes in her life, which overwhelms her. There’s Lord Gillingham and Mabel Lane Fox who are bout to be married, the death of Sybil and Rose’s wedding. Moreover, Tom just recently told her that he’s leaving for Boston after Christmas. She took some time alone, and Carson was there to comfort her.
The war memorial has been launched, and Mrs. Patmore was so happy that her nephew got a plaque. To make things even better, Daisy also announced that she’ll be staying and won’t be leaving until after her exams.
The main finale of the show was when Anna got arrested for Mr. Green’s murder. Mr. Bates have been cleared, but now Anna was out there and might go to jail. The evidence against her isn’t that strong, but with the difficulties that she went through this season, would she still be able to handle this one?
