The return of “Downton Abbey” Season 5 has made us realize that if life is in a constant movement for change, the show is an exception to that saying. Read on to learn more about this episode.

Only little has changed in the halls of the estate. The episode kicked off with Lord and Lady Grantham planning a big party to celebrate their 34th wedding anniversary. Time heals all wounds. The guests include Tony, one of Mary’s suitors who’s very determined to win her heart.

Gillingham snuck into Mary’s chambers. It took us back to the time Mr. Pamuk did the same thing but unfortunately died there as well. He went to Mary’s chambers to propose something. He invited the lady to go on a secret trip with him by spending the days talking while the nights they become lovers. It appears that Mary is on-board with that plan. However, before they could actually set their plan they got interrupted by a fire that was set by Edith.

Oh, poor Edith.  Marigold was now a toddler, and she still hasn’t declared that she is her child. She stumbled across one of Gregson’s books that made her pain intensify even more.

There was also Lady Anstruther and James who were flirting. Due to the fire, Lord Grantham caught James in the act. Oops, it looks like someone’s going to get fired.

And the ever-scheming Thomas had something up his sleeve again. He planned to blackmail Baxter. Unfortunately, it backfired when Baxter went directly to Cora and confessed her darkest secret. She was fired because she stole jewelry from her previous mistress and spent three years in jail because of that. However, she left the part why she did it, and we’re guessing that it will come to light after a few episodes or seasons. Just like how “Downton Abbey” does it. Due to this confession, Cora can see Thomas in a much clearer way. She wondered why Thomas recommended someone like her for the job until the fire, and Thomas saved her daughter. Now she couldn’t question Thomas anymore and owes him a favor. Oh, the turn of events!

Daisy also decided to learn arithmetic and Mrs. Hughes thought that this is a great idea, but Carson thought so otherwise.
