In Episode 5 of “Downton Abbey” Season 5, Tom made a decision, while Edith had a hard time making her decision regarding her daughter. Meanwhile, Robert was in for a surprise. Read on for the full recap.

Tom was still struggling on which option he should choose for him and his daughter. The Earl of Grantham and Daisy have given him advice, but it was Lady Mary's advice that we think Tom took to heart: “Make the right choice for you, and not for us. You know, you’re much nicer than a lot of people realize.” Yes, Tom, you have Lady Mary by your side. He then broke up with Sarah, but we don’t know if she’s going to be gone for good.

Meanwhile, the Dowager Countess asked for Dr. Clarkson’s help to keep Isobel and Lord Merton from each other. Dr. Clarkson agreed to help her, but they realized that Lord Merton and Isobel are actually perfect together. Rose met Atticus Aldridge, and Violet was interested in him due to his Russian roots. Lady Mary, on the other hand, met Charles Blake for dinner, only to be met by Mabel Lane Fox. Blake admitted that he used the dinner date for Mabel to take Tony back.

Edith was still struggling meeting her daughter, especially with Mrs. Drew who just can’t stand her presence. Edith, Aunt Rosamund and the Dowager Countess had a talk on what to do. They suggested that Edith send Marigold to boarding school in France so she can visit her there more freely. However, Edith wasn’t really up for the idea because France is a bit far, and she can’t seem to wrap her mind around sending her daughter far away from her. She’s considering it, though, because she knows that this is a good idea. However, she has a different place in mind. She went downstairs to call someone from London and it seems like there was an eavesdropper by the door.

Mr. Bricker arrived at Downton, and she was received by Cora. He has been pursuing Cora the whole time when both of them were in London, and he doesn’t want to miss the opportunity to take what they had in London to the next level. When Cora was in her room already, he showed up, but they didn’t realize that Robert went home early. He found them in the bedroom. The two had a fight and the next day. The Dowager Countess and Lady Mary can feel then tension between them.
