We’re almost near the end of “Downton Abbey” Season 5, and it keeps getting better. In this episode, Episode 6, Edith was now in London with her daughter, Marigold, and the Dowager Countess knew about this. She suggested that they tell Cora about Marigold because she’s Edith’s mother. Rosamund asked if they should tell Robert as well, but Violet only retorted, “He’s a man. Men don’t have rights.”
Cora was upset because she has only found out that she has a grandchild, but surprisingly, she asked Edith what she wants to do.
Lord Gillingham, Charles Blake and Mabel Lane Fox were in Downton. Charles was still on a mission to get Gillingham away from Lady Mary, but he was unsuccessful. Now that Anna knew the truth about the lost train ticket, they started making plans. Mr. Bates asked Lady Mary if she still got the ticket. Unfortunately, Mary burned that one last piece of evidence that could prove Bates’ innocence.
It was also nice to see Lady Rose and Atticus totally happy with each other, and everyone was happy for them, except for Atticus’ father due to the fact that the two share different religions, and he suggested that Atticus find another woman who shares the same faith. Meanwhile, Isobel announced her engagement to Lord Merton, and everyone was also thrilled with this news.
Cora went to London to see Edith and her grandchild. Edith told her about her plans of going away to America and starting over with her daughter, but she just couldn’t’ make herself to do it because she wants her child to grow up English. Cora has an idea: She offered that they come back to Downton and make everyone believe that Marigold is the Drewe’s child, but they couldn’t afford to keep her anymore. And then they would raise the child at the nursery together with Sybbie and George. Edith agreed.
Charles was still determined to separate Gillingham from Mary, so he kissed her, knowing that Gillingham and Mabel would see them. It did the trick, and Mabel and Gillingham left together. He then told Mary that he’s going away. When he comes back, she might be already married. However, it looks like Mary’s going to wait for him.
Here's the devastating news — Isis has cancer.
Lord Merton arranged a dinner to introduce Isobel to his sons, but things didn’t go so well because his sons were very rude. It was so obvious that they are not thrilled that their father is marrying Isobel.
