Death, proposal and someone left “Downton Abbey” in Episode Six. Read on for the full recap.
The episode kicked off with Edith finally receiving news about Michael Gregson. Meanwhile, Lady Mary and the family were preparing for a picnic, while Anna asked Mr. Bates to get her button box. When Mr. Bates retrieved it, he accidentally saw Lady Mary’s contraceptives, and he immediately thought that Anna doesn’t want to bear his child.
Due to the death of Gregson, Edith was feeling very sad, and she wished to find solace in her daughter Marigold. She went to the Drewe’s place, but Mrs. Drewe didn’t permit her to see Marigold, while Mr. Drewe asked her to give him more time.
In other news, Robert refused to sleep on his and Cora’s bed after what he saw last episode between Cora and Simon Bricker. Lady Grantham has expressed to him already that nothing happened, but Robert wouldn’t accept it until she challenged him that he can stay away from their room how long he wants, but he has to prove that he has never gotten into any temptations during their marriage. That seemed to silence Lord Grantham. Remember the maid?
A sergeant and an officer from Scotland Year visited Baxter for questioning, but the information that he has wasn’t enough. During the whole questioning, Mrs. Hughes was there, and she found out a lot about Baxter. Barrow talked to Baxter to ask for help because he’s been feeling very ill, and the truth finally came out — when he was in London, he put himself through electrotherapy to make him look better.
Lady Mary has gotten a new look. Her hair is shorter, while Edith shows her new clothes even though she just lost her husband. Mr. Bates confronted Anna about the contraceptives that he saw ,and he said that he did want to kill Mr. Green for what he did to her, but he never did it. He never got on the train to London. Relieved, Anna said that the contraceptives isn’t hers, and she also confirmed Bates’ statement by asking Mrs. Hughes about the ticket to London, in which Mrs. Hughes said that it has been long gone. It looks like Anna and Mr. Bates’ relationship will be much better now.
Back in the Drewe’s home, Mr. Drewe has finally revealed that Edith is the biological mother of Marigold, and they don’t have any claim on her. Mrs. Drewe was heartbroken, but she still gave Marigold to Edith, and they left for London without letting everyone know. Isobel finally accepted Lord Merton’s proposal.
When the family returned from the race, Edith was gone and in London with her daughter.
