Rapper Drake led the BET Hip Hop Awards nominations for the second time. Read on for more details.
28-year-old Canadian rapper and crooner Drake has been the top nominee for the 2015 BET Hip-Hop Awards with a total of 12 nominations. Rapper Big Sean got 10 nominations and Nicki Minaj got 9. Both Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole got 8 nominations.
The BET Hip-Hop Awards, which was hosted by Snoop Dogg, was taped on October 9 at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta. It will be aired on Tuesday, October 13, at 8PM Eastern time. It will be recalled that Snoop Dogg also hosted the 2013 and 2014 BET Hip-Hop Awards.
According to Atlanta Daily World, DJ Premier, Young Dro, Dej Loaf, T.I. Rich Homie Quan, Fetty Wap, Kind Ink, Chris Brown, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and DJ Mustard were announced as performers for the awards show.
It was also announced that this year’s “I Am Hip Hop” Awardee would be legendary rapper Scarface. The Houston native is a member of the rap group Geto Boys. He became popular with his group when they released the 1991 Top 10 hit song “Mind Playing Tricks on Me.” Scarface has released 12 solo albums which include chart-toppers “The Untouchable,” “The World is Yours,” and “My Homies.” His new album “Deeply Rooted”, which was released on September 4, 2015, debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200. It was his highest charting album since his 2002 album “The Fix” reached No. 4. Previous “I Am Hip Hop” awardees include MC Lyte, LL Cool J, Ice Cube, KRS-One, Doug E. Fresh, Rakim, Salt-N-Pepa, Russell Simmons, and Grandmaster Flash.
According to CBS News, the awards show will also include a taped performance by rapper Future. It was a pre-show performance that was recorded on Wednesday night at Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Crowd. He performed some of his hits including “Where Ya At” and “March Madness.”
