Ed Sheeran is under fire for performing a “homophobic” rap with fellow recording artist Devlin. A 5-minute video clip of the “Thinking Out Loud” singer has been reportedly pulled from the Internet after it had offended the LGBT community. Read on for more details.
According to Mail Online, Sheeran has made several offensive remarks in the video.
“I freestyle to the faggoty man. I go on the bus and I sleep for a day, then I come back and they’re like, Ed, you look like this gay,” Sheeran reportedly said.
His record label Warner Music Group has taken down the video from YouTube and a spokesperson of his has addressed the issue.
In Sheeran’s defense, his spokesperson stated that he had been drinking during and prior to his rap battle with Devlin. Sheeran can be seen holding a pint of beer in the video reportedly from late 2011. The spokesperson also claims that Sheeran was not trying to appear homophobic, but rather he was “sending up” rappers who still use homophobic slurs to garner attention.
Sheeran himself has yet to address the homophobic rap video.
The video shocked several fans as it went against the Sheeran that they knew. In 2013, the singer notably spoke up against anti-gay protesters who picketed outside of a Taylor Swift concert in Kansas. He took to Twitter to tell them to “keep their homophobic views” to themselves.
It seems like Sheeran should really cut back on his drinking. If one can remember his drinking problem was also one of the alleged reasons why Athina Andrelos broke up with him.
