Dwayne Johnson is set to reprise his role as the G. I. Joe, Roadblock in the third installment of the “G. I. Joe” film franchise. Read on for more details on this story.

Dwayne Johnson will be reprising his role as the G. I. Joe, Roadblock in the third installment of G. I. Joe film franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), “Disturbia” helmer D. J. Caruso is in talks to direct the “G. I. Joe: Retaliation” sequel. Jon M. Chu, who directed the previous installment, was originally attached to helm the third pic but has left to direct the “Jem and the Holograms” movie.

Caruso’s previous works include Shia LaBeouf hits “Disturbia” and “Eagle Eye,” “I Am Number Four” and the recently wrapped “The Disappointments Room,” a supernatural thriller starring Kate Beckinsale and Lucas Till. It is yet unknown which other characters from the previous movie will return. Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce the pic alongside Hasbro’s Brian Goldner.

The “G. I. Joe” films have consistently performed well for Paramount. The 2009 “G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” opened at the top of the box office and grossed over $302 million worldwide by the end of its run. Although critical reception was mostly negative, the film was considered to be a financial success, as it made enough money to return its production budget of $175 million. It is the third Hasbro film to reach number one at the box office after “Transformers” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” “G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” is the 15th highest grossing film of 2009, and the fourth highest film of 2009 to gross $300 million worldwide, behind “Star Trek,” “Terminator Salvation” and “Fast & Furious.” “G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” starred Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Dennis Quaid, Rachel Nichols, Ray Park, Sienna Miller, Lee Byung-hun, Christopher Eccleston and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Its 2013 sequel “G. I. Joe: Retaliation” served as a soft reboot of the franchise with Channing Tatum, Arnold Vosloo, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce and Byung-hun Lee reprising their roles from the first film and Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, D. J. Cotrona, and Bruce Willis as General Joseph Colton round out the principal cast. “G. I. Joe: Retaliation” grossed a worldwide total of $375,740,705, making it the 25th highest-grossing film of 2013 in North America, the 18th highest grossing film worldwide that year and the fourth highest-grossing Hasbro film.
