The star who brought the eponymous role of Frodo Baggins to life goes back to Middle-Earth for the creation of “The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made” for Air New Zealand. Read on to know more about this feature.
Among the many stars who turned out to be one of Middle Earth’s icons, the most heavily burdened of them all chose to rise to become part of a promotional campaign of Air New Zealand in light of the coming opening of “The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies” — the ring bearer himself, Frodo Baggins — Elijah Wood. The actor stars alongside Air New Zealand cabin crew, several fan passengers, “The Hobbit” actors Sylvester McCoy and Dean O’Gorman and the award-winning director Peter Jackson.
“Air New Zealand is proud to take its passengers to Middle Earth” The Wall Street Journal reports the online release of Air New Zealand’s “Most Epic Safety Video Made Ever,” which features actor Elijah Wood and director Peter Jackson demonstrating safety guidelines, promoting the airline and the upcoming (and last LOTR-themed) film “The Hobbits: Battle of Five Armies” as a whole.
The video ran for more than four and a half minutes that featured the actor, Elijah Wood, aka Frodo Baggins, in three sequences. First, he appears beside two ultimately dedicated fans who were more than excited to know that they are seated next to the Middle Earth Star. Second, without a dialogue, he’s been shrunk to hobbit size to demonstrate the oxygen mask safety measures for the little ones. And finally, he ends the video with the line: “May your path always be guided by the light of the stars, and may the future bestow upon you all the happiness and adventure our Middle Earth has to offer.” He then disappears after wearing “the precious.”
According to Variety, the video was directed by Taika Waititi in a span of six days, with the actor himself playing the Grey Wizard on the video itself. It was filmed in familiar Middle Earth locations such as Hobbiton and Central Otago. Elijah Wood is not the only Middle-Earth actor joining this video. There’re also Sylvester McCoy, who plays Radagast, and Dean O’Gorman, who plays Fili the Dwarf. Moreover, award-winning director Peter Jackson also pitches in with how he discussed the usage of electronic gadgets while on flight.
Air New Zealand’s “Most Epic Safety Video Made Ever” was created for the purpose of wrapping up the three-year partnership between the Middle Earth films and the airline company.
“We are very proud to be the official airline of Middle-earth and have worked hard over the past three years to create highly effective global marketing campaigns, including distinctive branded aircraft and Hobbit-inspired online content, which have got the world talking about both our airline and destination New Zealand,” said Air New Zealand head of global brand development Jodi Williams, as published on Variety.
“The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies” will be opening in cinemas this Dec. 17, 2014.
That concludes our “Most Epic Safety Video Made Ever” feature. Stay tuned on Movie News Guide (MNG) for more updates on upcoming films.
