Ellen DeGeneres usually comes across as a funny personality on-air and even when she’s not hosting her show. While on-air she tends to do these little parodies/sketches of different celebrities in good humor, there are moments when audiences might just take offense to some of the sketches. Everyone’s taste in humor is different and it was pretty evident when Ellen was criticized for being a racist when she played a sketch on Nicki Minaj that highlighted her butt.
According to Independent, Ellen, in the latest episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” played a sketch based on Nicki Minaj. It all started when Nicki announced that she would be producing a sitcom based on her life as a child growing up in Queens, New York and it was on the show that Ellen first joked about having an exclusive footage of the same.
Ellen in her usual manner talked about the show that Nicki announced and proceeded to saying that she has a clip from the show. The clip that was called completely tasteless shows a young girl portraying Nicki and flaunting a gigantic butt. It’s not just the young girl whose butt is shown that huge, but the parents as well can be seen having the same.
Whenever the characters turn around, they tend to knock down things around them and probably that was the main part of the sketch which was considered really offensive. Its not that Ellen has a bad rapport with Nicki in any way because the latter has appeared on the former’s show quite a few times and even laughed at the parody that Ellen made on the “Anaconda” song.
Hollywoodlife.com added that many are slamming Ellen for the fact that the sketch is offensive in nature with respect to race and women’s bodies. The media outlet also added that many were confused and didn’t know how to react to the sketch. Let us know in the comments below if you think the sketch was racist or should it be taken in good humor?
