“Debt” is about a writer named Lilian Fitzgerald who is struggling with paying off her college fees for the graduate degree she took in creative writing. In order to settle this, Lilian becomes a tutor at a company that helps SAT takers. The company is actually owned by a man who also owns many other banks. One of these banks is where she drew her students’ loans from. Lilian discovers that the person who owns all these companies has many dangerous secrets. Knowing what she knows now, Lilian’s life is threatened. Will she be able to survive long enough to write the story?
The story of “Debt” is based on a book written by Rachel Carey, which was released in 2013. Its focus is on the financial meltdown that happened in New York in 2008.
According to The Wrap, which first reported the story, Pompeo will serve as the executive producer to the series along with ABC Signature, which is a division of ABC that handles projects for cable. If the project pushes forward, “Debt” will be airing on ABC Family.
The team developing “Debt” are still on the lookout for a writer.
This isn’t the first time Pompeo got involved in a development deal. When she launched her own production company in 2011, the actress worked on selling a script to ABC, but the project didn’t push forward.
On Sept. 25, 2014, Pompeo will return to the small screen for the eleventh season of “Grey’s Anatomy.” She has been part of the show since it premiered in 2005, and her contract with the series remains in effect until the 12th season.
