‘Gender discrimination’ or ‘sexism’ is something not good for any society or community but when a big screen star talks about its presence inside the industry, which is believed to hold the most open approach on such matters, the scenario instantly takes questionable shape. The same thing happened when our cute face actress and recently turned singer, Emma Watson talked about ‘sexism’s’ presence in the film industry and that to on a greater level.
“He For She” movement supporter Watson has talked about prevalent gender inequality in the industry by comparing the number of male directors over female with whom she worked till now. “I have experienced sexism in that I have been directed by male directors 17 times and only twice by women. Of the producers I’ve worked with 13 have been male and only one has been a woman,” said the 25-year-old Watson, who was recently in news for making efforts to break her Hermione’s image, as revealed by The Guardian.
The UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador, who was in a relationship with Georgian Rugby Union player, Matt Janney, gave an example of a recently attended work dinner meet by her in which she was the only woman in the company of seven men. She further added that media is the industry where one can easily find examples of sexism as compared to any other industry or society and to justify her comment Watson stated that most of the problems that she has encountered have been in the media, where she has been treated so differently from her male co-stars, revealed The Guardian.
The Harry Potter series fame actress has blamed women for their plight more than men in the industry and said, “Women are just as guilty of discriminating against women. Some of the best feminists I have encountered are men.” She further quoted, “Some women can be incredibly prejudiced against other women!”
Well, one thing is clear that Emma Watson is a true feminist and she will go to any extend to do things for women but also teach women to fight for their rights too. Let us wish the actress all the best for her great efforts.
