Emma Watson, best known for her portrayal of Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter“ movie franchise, is also making a splash in her new role: as an advocate of women’s rights.
Watson gave another moving speech about gender equality. And this one of her most important audience: the participants of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Following up her speech at the United Nations in September 2014, she called for a fair participation of women not just in homes, but in society, in the workforce and in public office, further noting that the world is being hindered by the lack of equality among men and women.
She also stated that women are equal shareholders of this planet, but unfortunately, they are not represented enough. Thus, their potential to help in moving this society is not utilized.
Watson also invited the participants at the economic forum to join her campaign, IMPACT 10X10X10, which will run for a year. The initiative is looking to interact with different governments, businesses and schools and tackle the growing gap in women representation and how they can be empowered.
She addressed the varying groups of people in the economic forum, which includes heads of states and leaders of big businesses. She engaged them to put women’s empowerment principles in their governments and companies and report the positive changes that it has as a whole. She also persuaded them to be the influence to other men in advocating the equal rights of women.
