“My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting,” said Emma Watson as she officially announced her role in the new Disney live-action movie, “Beauty and the Beast.”
The classic fairytale about how true love changed the cold heart of a prince is now set to be portrayed in real life. On Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, Watson announced on her Facebook page that she has landed the role of Belle in the movie, “Beauty and the Beast.”
Watson told her fans and followers that the movie has been a huge part of her life while growing up, saying that it “almost feels surreal” to be taking part in the movie, singing along to “Something There” and dancing along to “Be Our Guest.” The actress also noted in her post that she’d better start doing some singing lessons and added that she’s excited for her fans to see it.
Watson’s fans were very delighted to hear the news. Some even said that Disney couldn’t have made a better choice while others were left wondering who will play as the Beast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bill Condon from “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Parts 1 and 2” will be directing the film. Production under David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandelville Films will start in 2015. The release date and other cast members have not yet been announced.
“Beauty and the Beast” has earned more than $145 million since its release in 1991. It has always been a crowd favorite, especially among children and kids-at-heart. Disney’s live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast” follows the footsteps of the studio’s previously released live-action versions of “Alice in Wonderland” in 2010 and “Cinderella” in 2015.
Watson has previously starred in “Harry Potter,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” and “This Is the End.”
