Following a very trying week for One Direction, Harry Styles took time to thank the group’s legions of fans during their last night in Manila, Philippines. Styles’ voice sounded like it was going to crack when he uttered his short message.

In a video posted by a fan on Vine, which was subsequently shared on Twitter, Harry Styles paused to acknowledge the fans who have watched the Manila leg of One Direction’s world tour. Looking rather moved by the support, Styles remarked:

“For the last five years, it’s absolutely incredible and we just want to tell you how much we love you one last time. You have been absolutely incredible. Thank you so, so much for being our fans. We love you, we love you very, very much.”

The group, who arrived in the Philippines last March 20th with one member missing, was in town for a two-night concert at the SM Mall of Asia. Their visit, which has been threatened by showers and thunderstorms at the open grounds, was also marred by a lot of controversies.

It began with the news that the country’s Bureau of Immigration was imposing a “weed bond” for two of its members: Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson. But by mid-week and while still on the way to the Philippines, the two would also figure in different controversies of their own.

A day before the band was to arrive, Zayn decided to bail on the tour as news of him cheating on his fiancé hit the headlines. He flew back to the U.K. to apparently recover from stress and presumably work it out with his girlfriend. Following this, news of Louis Tomlinson breaking up with his long-time girlfriend also became a hot topic, while photos of him with another girl was also spreading fast on the Internet.

It has indeed been a whirlwind week for these young artists. Five years ago, Simon Cowell plucked them out and formed the group from a crowd of people who went to audition for “The X Factor” in the U.K.

Meanwhile, in his own Twitter account, Harry Styles once again thanked the fans for enthusiasm and support. But will One Direction ever catch a break from the controversies after this?
