Bragging rights will be one of the narrative elements for next week’s episode of ‘Empire’ as a rap battle ensues between father (and his female protégé) and son. Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) tired of his own father’s insults and putdowns brews a rap dittie that could stop the earth’s revolution (in the case of “Empire,” the Lyon Dynasty). WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the upcoming episode of “Empire.”
Ilene Chaiken, the showrunner of television’s warring family of rap moguls, made clear why the dysfunctional Lyon patriarch has always been on a hot pursuit for supremacy.
“He wants to be the sun, the moon, the stars and whatever else is left in the universe needs to revolve around him,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
Earlier in the season, the flashback guest appearances of singer Kelly Rowland playing a young Lucious Lyon’s “cuckoo” mother, granted the audiences a heartbreaking backstory of what made Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) the Lucious Lyon he is in the present day. Now, it will be his ex-wife/personal nemesis’ turn courtesy of guest star Vivica A. Fox, who will portray an older sibling of Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) which as expected, has a temperamentally fierce character.
Her so-called “special visit” will kick-off the revelation of “Nutty” Cookie’s own history, although, as explained by Chaiken, that will be employing a more present-day approach to her backstory.
According to Wet Paint, the “My Bad Parts” episode will again be a continuous downpour of one bad luck after another for Anika (Grace Gealey). However, she will be at the end of part of receiving “some life changing news” which definitely does not involve Hakeem.
Jamal (Jussie Smollett) is dress for business for this week as he has “set his eyes on the prize.” However, despite their guidance and the presence of her older sister, their mother Cookie continues to be on dangerous ground as she falls for Laz (Adam Rodriguez).
‘Empire’ Episode 8 will air on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 9pm – 10 pm on FOX
