Also, Deadline has also released the premiere date for the show’s second season. Read on to learn more about what to expect in the second season of “Empire”, and as to when to expect the show to return.
According to an exclusive report on Deadline, the FOX break out hit will be returning in time for the upcoming fall season, as the second season will be premiering on Wednesday, September 23, 2015. As if that weren’t all to get excited about, The Hollywood Reporter has reported the exciting new line-up for the guest stars in the upcoming season, which include music industry legends Lenny Kravitz and Alicia Keys. Also, comedian Chris Rock will also be a guest star, who, according to The Hollywood Reporter, who managed to sit down with the cast and crew of “Empire” during last Friday’s Television Academy panel, will be a figure “from the past” that the Lyons will have to deal with.
Aside from that, the cast and crew also revealed to The Hollywood Reporter during the panel as to what fans and viewers might expect from the show in the second season, aside from these new guest stars.
According to the panel, showrunner Ilene Chaiken said that there will be more episodes for this upcoming season, which will be a challenge for them, as eighteen episodes have been ordered from them.
She also described the second season as a season of “warring kingdoms”.
According to Jussie Smollett, who portrays the current head of Empire Entertainment, the middle child Jamal Lyon, season two will open with “a new Lyon” who will be leading the company, and described that character as a passionate leader.
Actress Taraji P. Henson, who plays Cookie Lyon, the smart mouthed wife of Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), told The Hollywood Reporter that audiences will see Cookie going back to who she was before, and that her goal for this season is to accomplish everything that she possibly could before Lucious is released from prison.
Nothing much was said about the youngest Lyon, but Trai Byers, who portrays the eldest, Andre Lyon, has teased that more will be in store for the troubled father-to-be. According to Byers, he told The Hollywood Reporter that his newfound spirituality will be a very big component in Andre’s journey for the second season, and audiences will see him change because of this, and of course because of the changes in his life.
