Remakes are popping in theaters here and there, and so are the questions about who’s playing who. “Pacific Rim” star Charlie Hunnam joins the list of stars being considered to play Snake Plissken in the sci-fi remake of the film “Escape from New York.”
March of 2013 marked the assurance of the creation of the remake sci-fi film by John Carpenter entitled “Escape from New York,” with Joel Silver revealing his plans that he will be making an entirely different take of the story, aiming for a threepeat film. With things finally setting in motion this year, the movie is moving forward with its pre-production process in deliberating the actors playing the heavy ridden roles. This time around, the production is working on considering “Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam to play as Snake Plissken for the remake.
For those not in the know, Snake Plissken is a character in the “Escape from New York” who is a convicted bank robber with a military background. That being said, he comes about into this dystopic version of New York City being the protagonist and the leader of a so-called rescue team. This character was originally played by Kurt Russel, but it’s time to pass on the reins on who will bring this willful character to life. Rehashing on who will be assuming the eye-patch-wearing protagonist, Charlie Hunnam emerges as the most suitable actor to play the role, being that he’s recently wrapped from “Sons of Anarchy.”
With the coming of his possible involvement, the remake of this film is promised to be created with a different with a darker tone and a less technologically inclined storyline premise. According to Jo Blo, part of the changes in the film will be that it shall be centered more in the aspects of teamwork. They are working on a team-based character setting, with Snake Plissken assuming the position of the leader. That being said, he then trudges towards a horrifying version of the Big Apple’s landscape that is ridden with manifold group of criminals that are looking to leave the prisonlike island on behalf of the recapture and rescue of the entrapped U.S. president.
“Plissken’s team consists of Mina, a warzone journalist framed for murder and living in the shadows of New York as a scavenger; Cabbie, a schizophrenic travel guide who serves as comic relief; Gareth, the last surviving member of the President’s security detail who harbors a dangerous secret; and The Brain, Plissken’s former partner-in-crime who left him to die after a botched robbery,” said Starlog in the Firstshowing.net report.
Nothing is still set in stone for the production of this all-new dystopic action-drama remake, but the wheels are definitely turning to pursue its creation with the clear involvement of production companies Studio Canal and Silver Pictures.
