These days, a new trend has started to pick up steam. After superheroes and supervillains, fans find themselves getting pulled toward anti-heroes. Anti-heroes are a slightly different than traditional heroes as they lack the heroic attribute.
With Deadpool kicking off the anti-hero trend, there is another anti-hero/supervillain’s movie that fans might want to know more about.
Venom movie details
Screen Rant reported everything to know about the recently announced Venom movie. The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy has been cast in the lead role and will play the supervillain/anti-hero in the movie.
Sony is making the movie and it will be part of its Spider-Man cinematic universe whilst other Spider-Man characters will also get their own movies. Hardy’s casting has received unanimous support from fans who have applauded the choice. Production on the movie is expected to begin soon.
Storyline of Venom
Reports have stated that Venom will be Eddie Brock’s origin story. Brock is a disgraced journalist who was chosen by an alien symbiote called Venom to be its human host. Since the symbiote was initially attached to Spider-Man, it manifested all of the web slinger’s powers to Brock.
Also, the abilities that he acquired were far more superior than the superhero. With this newfound power, he went up against Spider-Man and became one of the fiercest supervillains that the hero has faced. Since Brock’s origin is linked to Spider-Man, it will have to be tweaked to some extent so that it fits in the movie.
The reason why it will need some tweaking is that Spider-Man will not be a part of the movie. Also, since the focus will be on Venom, the makers will have to establish him as a character who is not completely dependent on the superhero to tell his story.
Main villain in the movie
Carnage, Venom’s son and the second alien symbiote will be the main villain. Carnage is just like Venom but it is more vicious and evil than its father.
It came into being when Brock was in prison. Brock knew that his symbiote would come to rescue him in jail. The symbiote did come to the rescue, but it gave birth to another symbiote. This symbiote needed a human host as well to survive.
So it ended up choosing Brock’s cellmate Kletus Cassady as its host. Cassady was a serial killer, which turned Carnage into pure evil and more dangerous than Venom. Additionally, the new symbiote gave Cassady the combined strength of Venom and Spider-Man.
In the comics, Spider-Man and Venom had joined forces and defeated Carnage together. But since the hero is not in the movie, Venom alone will have to stop him somehow. The evil symbiote will have to do something so bad that Venom is forced to become an anti-hero for once and stop him.
Unique connection to MCU
Venom is also known to have a unique and indirect connection to MCU. It is a Marvel property, whose film rights are owned by Sony. It is set in the same reality as Tom Holland’s Spider-man but it is not a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It sounds a little complicated right now but it is expected that producer Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will elaborate on this in near future. Also since there is a deal Marvel and Sony, Holland’s Spider-Man will perhaps eventually get a chance to come face to face with Hardy’s Venom.
Either this or the studios will make a new deal in the future that will allow Venom to crossover to MCU as well. Watching him go up against Spider-Man once again will be a treat for fans. It remains to be seen if fans get to see this or not.
Plot and release date
Official details on the movie’s plot have not dropped yet but it will focus on Brock’s life and how he came to be known as Venom. It has no connection to the previous version of Venom that was seen in Spider-Man 3.
This movie will mark the beginning of a series of movies based in the Spider-Man cinematic universe focusing on Spider-Man’s enemies. After this a movie on Black Cat & Silver Sable, Sinister Six and others are also planned. Venom is set to release next year on Oct. 5.
