What better way to hype fans about an upcoming movie than to feature it alongside an equally exciting movie, right? That just seems to be Disney’s strategy when it comes to its 2016 superhero blockbuster, “Captain America: Civil War.”
Right before Daniel Craig’s “Spectre” hit theatres, the Internet rumour grapevine was full of word that the first “Captain America: Civil War” will debut to the public during the James Bond screening. That obviously did not pan out, which still leaves fans asking, “Where’s our ‘Civil War’ trailer?” While the trailer is still not here, Collider seems to have a definitive answer.
According to the online publication, the public (at least those who did not get to attend this year’s D23) will finally have their first sneak peek at the newest Captain America movie during the screenings of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” It does make perfect sense, given both Captain America and Star Wars are Disney franchises. Also, it will do Disney a lot of good if it attaches its 2016 event movie to this year’s event movie, right?
While there is no definitive proof of the trailer’s release date, there seems to be one teaser of it online. Earlier this year, a Twitter account named “Russo Brothers” appeared on the micro-blogging site. It is still unverified and is currently in no way connected to Joe and Anthony Russo, who helmed the last Captain America movie and is directing the upcoming one. But the teasers the account has been posting gives Marvel fans a lot to tide them over until the movie releases. And one of their teasers this week had extreme close-ups of Captain America’s ‘stars’ and Princess Leia’s costume from an old Star Wars poster pitted against each other.
Though this bit of news should be taken with a grain of salt, it does not hurt anyone if fans cross their fingers collectively and hope really hard for a “Captain America: Civil War” trailer starting December 18, when “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hits theatres. But whether or not the trailer does drop on that date, one thing is sure: “Captain America: Civil War” debuts on May 6, 2016.
