Expendables 4 seems to be in a thick mess right now. After Sylvester Stallone reportedly parted ways with the franchise following a “difference of opinion” with Avi Lerner, his good friend Arnold Schwarzenegger too might not come back.

The update was released when the former Governor was asked about his participation in a potential fourth movie. Taking his friend’s side, the veteran action star gave a couple of reasons as to why his character would not come back for the new movie.

Not without Stallone

Variety reported that one of the major reasons why Schwarzenegger is not agreeing to be a part of the fourth movie is because of Stallon’s absence.

Following reports that Stallone has already left the franchise, Schwarzenegger believes there can be no Expendables without Stallone.

The two have been good friends for a while now, however, that was not the case in their younger days. Having starred in the trilogy and other movies together, they make for a deadly duo.

This “frenemy” equation between them has been teased in the trilogy too, which makes it unique. Keeping scores with each other and later helping each other out is why fans love to see Stallone’s Barney Ross and Schwarzenegger’s Trench together.

Script’s status

Talking about the fourth movie’s script, the Terminator star also addressed the fact that he has no idea if there is a script already. According to him, he has not seen the script and is not even aware of its existence.

He, however, also mentioned that the makers still want to shoot in August like they do every time they make a movie in the franchise.

Bigger role

Another reason why he may not star in the next movie is because of his role. He believes that his role in the first two movies was great but it somehow disintegrated in the third movie.

He also stated that his role felt like it has no value at all that time. Despite this, he praised the action franchise and said that he loves it.

If his character were to be written properly and if he were to be given a meatier role, he would certainly do it. He also praised Stallone for the ideas he has for the franchise and added that his friend has an idea as to what he wants to do with it.

Stallone’s exit

Reports of Stallone exiting the franchise just started very recently. An outlet reported that following a disagreement over details such as which direction the new movie should go, who should be the new director, and what should be included in the new script, Stallone decided to quit the franchise.

Aside from starring in the first three movies, Stallone had co-written them with creator Dave Callaham and even directed the first one.

The movie is known for having an influx of action stars. Many including Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and many others have been a part of the franchise.

It has also had glorified cameos from Chuck Norris, which was put especially in The Expendables 2.

New direction

The franchise did perhaps try to take a new route after younger stars like Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Glen Powell, Victor Ortiz and others were included in The Expendables 3.

However, that movie leaked on the Internet weeks before its release, which affected its business. Despite that, a fourth movie was announced but now with no Stallone in it, it remains to be seen where exactly will it go.

Expendables 4 does not have an official release date yet.
