One of the most unique reality TV competitions returns on Syfy. “Face Off” Season 8 will have its two-episode premiere on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. Read on to know the tweaks for the new season.
“Face Off” is a competition of special effects and makeup artists. The twist will be associating teams and coaches to “The Voice,” which is a popular singing competition on NBC, Syfy’s sister network.
The theme of the season is “Return of the Champions.” McKenzie Westmore is the host of the series.
Former winners will return for the eighth season. Rayce Bird from Season 2, Anthony Kosar from Season 4 and Laura Tyler from Season 5 will serve as coaches and train their chosen five.
Another spice for Season 8 is to have a “watch and win sweepstakes” for the first time. Fans will just post who their favorite artist is on Twitter. Every episode, one winner will be announced on the show, on Syfy.com and on Twitter.
The premiere will feature seven-time Oscars winner and makeup legend Rick Baker. He was one of the creative team in “Planet of the Apes,” “Men in Black,” Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and “American Werewolf in London.” He will appear in the first two episodes to mentor and act as guest judge.
Ve Neill will also return to judge the contestants. She was also an Oscar Award winner and part of the behind-the-scenes of “The Hunger Games” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
Other guests for the season are Glenn Hetrick, a veteran in “Heroes,” “CSI: New York” and “Legion,” Neville Page, creature designer in “Prometheus” and “Avatar” and Michael Westmore, makeup artist in “Star Trek.”
Three artists will be left for the finale. The prizes are $100,000, a 2015 Fiat and a VIP package from Kryolan Professional Make-Up, the official sponsor of “Face Off.”
“Face Off” was launched in January 2011. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it consistently gave Syfy good ratings. TV By the Numbers wrote that it was a critically acclaimed series and Syfy’s most watched reality show.
“Face Off” is produced by Executive Producers Dwight D. Smith, Derek Atherton and Michael Agbabian. The series is from Mission Control Media.
