“Falling Skies” Season 4 Premiere Episode 1 “Ghost in the Machine” aired on June 22, 2014. It is directed by Greg Beeman and written by David Eick. The Season 4 premiere of “Falling Skies” started off with the surprise attack of the remaining Espheni on Tom, his family and the remaining members of the 2nd Massachusetts Militia Regiment. They were forced to separate in various groups.

After four months, Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) has been imprisoned by the Skitters, a new species of flying alien. He has been concocting some plans on escaping along with the others. He is joined by former 2nd Mass leader Dan Weaver (Will Patton), who previously lost Jeannie (Laci J Mailey). Aside from the Skitters, the concentration camp was still lead by the Overlords. He had successfully escaped from his makeshift cell and donned a disguise and a motorbike. He was on his way to meet Cochise (Doug Jones), one of the Volm species.

Hal (Drew Roy) and Tector (Ryan Robbins) helped Tom in finding ways into disarming the fence. They asked John Pope (Colin Cunningham) for his generator, but he refused. Tom and the good guys continued to stop him from hoarding food. They met a stranger named Dingaan Botha, who said that he previously escaped the ghetto for several times.

Elsewhere, Anne (Moon Bloodgood) also got separated from the group with Anthony (Mpho Koaho). They started on recruiting young men for help. Anne and her group successfully captured a convoy that contained a bunch of kids. It was revealed that the kids weren’t forced to use harnesses to control them, but the aliens used the “reward” system for the kids to accept their fates. Matt (Maxim Knight), on the other hand, was one of those kids who have been brought in for training.

In Chinatown, Ben (Connor Jessup) woke up from a coma as Maggie (Sarah Carter) welcomed his comeback. He learned that Lexi (Scarlett Byrne) was now a fully-grown blonde-haired woman. Lexi currently lead a pack of peace-loving group of humans inside the Espheni territory. Though they were both children of Tom, Ben and Lexi have different perspectives about the on-going war. Ben wanted to continue on fighting while Lexi just wanted peace for everyone.
