Fate of the Furious will herald the beginning of the next chapter for Dominic Torello and his team. During the surprise screening at CinemaCon this week, actor and producer Vin Diesel revealed that the eighth installment of the Fast & Furious movie franchise is the beginning of a new trilogy.

Post-Paul Walker Era

The Fast & Furious franchise has definitely gone through a number of major changes since it launched in 2001. From notorious street racers, Dom and his family use their speed to perform heists and now, to catch bad guys on behalf of the government.

But the action movie franchise is about to begin a new era in the upcoming eighth installment. This is the second movie that will not star Paul Walker who died while Furious 7 was in production.

Moreover, new characters have joined the racing/heist franchise. Academy Award winner Charlize Theron plays the role of Cipher, a cyber-terrorist who has lured Dom into the dark side. Dame Helen Mirren also signed up as the mother of Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). Scott Eastwood is now part of the family in a still-unidentified new role.

“As the world sees this movie, they’ll see how its the beginning of a new trilogy,” Diesel was quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

However, the arrival of the new actors does not mean that Walker is forgotten. The beloved star of the franchise “lives through every frame” of the movie. In fact, it was Walker that motivated Diesel to make the eighth movie. Before he died, Walker promised a follow-up to Furious 7. “We never want to let him down,” Diesel added.

Diesel has already confirmed Fast & Furious 9 and 10 which are set to be released in 2019 and 2021 respectively. The upcoming trilogy will signal the end of the franchise.

Fate of the Furious Reception At Cinema Con

The movie directed by F. Gary Gray made an early debut at CinemaCon held in Las Vegas this week. The convention which is meant to attract the attention of movie theater owners were surprised when Universal screened the full movie on Wednesday.

Based on the reaction from those who were able to catch the screening, the eighth installment of the Fast & Furious movie franchise did not disappoint. Here are a few reactions from Twitter:

The full-length reviews, however, are set to come out closer to the movie’s release date.

Another tweet mentioned that Diesel did not share even one scene with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. According to rumors, the two have clashed horns on the set of the upcoming movie.

To recall, last year, Johnson called out a cast member on Instagram for being unprofessional. While the actor did not mention names, some sources claimed that he has a beef with Diesel. More recent reports reveal that the studio is keeping the actors separate as the team continues the press tours.

The stakes are higher in The Fate of the Furious. After saying good bye to his friend in Furious 7, Dom Torreto loses his way and find himself allied with a notorious hacker and cyber terrorist known as Cipher.

In the eighth installment, the former street racer will face off against his former team and turn his back on his own family. The battle will take them all over the world – from the snow-covered plains of Iceland to the streets of Cuba and back to New York City. But will they be able to save Dom or has the former street-racer reached the point of no return?

The Fate of the Furious will be released on Apr. 14. It also stars Jason Statham, Kristofer Hivju, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Michelle Rodriguez, Nathalie Emmanuel and Kurt Russell.
