After stealing the show in Fate of the Furious, will fans see more of Deckard Shaw in the following movies? Jason Statham talks about his future in the Fast & Furious franchise.
The New Member of the Family
The eighth installment of the racing/heist franchise showed Dom Torreto (Vin Diesel) did the unthinkable and turned his back on his family. However, it was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Hobbs and Statham Shaw who are the real heroes of the record-breaking new movie.
Their banter stole the spotlight and Statham’s eventual change of heart won viewers over. He even [SPOILER ALERT] saved Dom’s son from the villainess Cipher (Charlize Theron).
Does his good deeds in the new movie means that he is now part of the family? In an interview with
In an interview with EW, Statham talked about his relationship with Dom and his crew following the events of Fate of the Furious.
The 49-year-old explained that while there is still a rift between Shaw and Hobbs, the two are starting to warm up to each other. However, there is still a competition between the two characters.
“Without giving the story away, even if they became really close — and there is a certain charm between the two of them now — they still want to know who’s the best, who’s the toughest, who’s the hardest,” he stated. “Whether they can fight down the line: Who knows? They could be beating each other up for fun. There’s a real oneupmanship.”
Completely by Accident
The interactions between Hobbs and Shaw certainly are some of the most enjoyable to watch, but not everything was on the script. According to Johnson, one scene happened completely by accident.
When the team has finally come together, Hobbs approached Shaw. They had a heated exchange that led to Hobbs saying, “With all due respect Captain, when this whole thing is over we’re going to find a location, and I’m gonna knock your teeth so far down your throat you’re gonna stick a toothbrush right up your a** to brush ’em.”
But instead of a brawl, the two broke character. When Shaw cracked, Hobbs joined the laughter.
According to Johnson, that was completely unscripted. On Twitter, the actor recounted what happened on the set.

Excitingly, this is not the end of his story. The actor assured that screenwriter Chris Morgan still has a few tricks up his sleeve. There is still a lot more to find out about his character and when it unravels, it is going to shock people.
“Chris told me there are a few things we could shock people with, regarding Deckard,” he promised. Moreover, it looks like Mirren is not going away any time soon. Fans already saw their relationship in
Moreover, it looks like Mirren is not going away any time soon. Fans already saw their relationship in Fate of the Furious, but the franchise still has a lot to show in terms of the dynamic between Shaw and his mother as well as his upbriging. Statham stated that Shaw’s relationship with his mother will likely be explored in future movies. As he pointed out, they would not bring an amazing actress for a one-off role, would they?
