“Fifty Shades of Grey” movie adaptation sparked the curiosity of fans who have followed the trilogy books. Although everyone has their own expectations about the characters, Dakota Johnson admitted recently that she wants Anastasia Steele to be someone else.
According to Fashion & Style, the “Fifty Shades of Grey” actress said to an interview with Elle magazine that it doesn’t bother her if people laugh at how bizarre the experiences of her character had been in the film. Truth be told, she even wants her to be amusing. S
“I needed Anastasia to be funny, if you can’t laugh during a movie like that, you’re f**ked, literally. You need to have something that everyone can relate to.” Johnson said.
It appears Johnson indeed prepared well for her portrayal as she makes sure Anastasia Steele’s personality bordered more on reality and more than the expectations set for her.
In an article from News Everyday, the director of the first film installment Sam Taylor-Johnson has nothing but good words for the actress and how perfectly she fit in for the character.
“There had to be a sense of wide-eyed, excitable curiosity, but grounded in a worldliness. She had to have an inner strength that would carry her through the darkest of moments. I knew straightaway that Dakota was the girl,” Johnson stated.
This recent interview to Johnson is featured in the Elle Magazine’s “Women in Hollywood” edition. Aside from her, other actresses given recognition in this issue are Kate Winslet, Alicia Vikander, Carey Mulligan, Amy Schumer, Ava DuVernay, Gena Rowlands and Salma Hayek.
The role of Anastasia Steele considered different young stars such as Analeigh Tipton, Alicia Vikander, Shailene Woodley, and Emma Watson. Johnson was the one entrusted with the character and she will be back for the next installment.
