Irish actor Jamie Dornan has been confirmed to take up the role of Christian Grey in “Fifty Shades of Grey” following the recent mishap with Charlie Hunnam.
The Pacific Rim star, Hunnam, was originally chosen to be cast as Christian Grey in the film adaptation of the bestselling novel Fifty Shades of Grey but the actor decided on dropping out of the project last month due to conflicting schedules with ‘Sons of Anarchy’.
Since then the studio has been searching for a replacement and had plenty of names to tick off on the list, including Scott Eastwood, Theo James, Christian Cooke and more.
Compared to Hunnam, Dornan may not be that big of name in Hollywood. According to Variety, producers of Fifty Shades of Grey wanted just that after Hunnam took off. They wanted to go for a relatively unknown actor and the initial screen tests with Dornan sealed the deal.
Jamie Dornan is perhaps best known to Americans for his role as The Huntsman/Sheriff on ABC’s Once Upon a Time. More recently, he played the serial killer/antagonist in the BBC crime series The Fall opposite Gillian Anderson (X-Files), which was critically-acclaimed and extremely popular.
Provided that everything goes smoothly from here on, Fifty Shades of Grey hits theaters August 1, 2014.
