“Fifty Shades of Grey” star Jamie Dornan will continue his movie work as Miramax signed him as the lead for the film “The 9th Life Of Louis Drax.” The studio also tapped French director Alexandre Aja to direct the psychological thriller movie. Read on to learn more about this story.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Dornan will star for the theatrical film adaptation of Liz Jensen’s best-selling novel “The 9th Life Of Louis Drax.” The story follows a near-fatal accident involving a nine-year-old Louis Drax. Dornan takes the role of a doctor named Allan Pascal. He will investigate the mystery behind the child’s accident.
“The 9th Life Of Louis Drax” taps director Alexandre Aja, who rose to international stardom for his 2003 horror film “Haute Tension” or “High Tension” in the US, and known as “Switchblade Romance” in the UK. He has also directed the horror films “The Hills Have Eyes”, “Mirrors” and “Piranha 3D.” He also directed “Horns” starring Daniel Radcliffe.
Aja will be directing from a script penned by Max Minghella, son of the late director Anthony Minghella, who Miramax first optioned to direct the adaptation in 2014. The project marks Anthony Minghella’s screenwriting debut.
“Tim and I are thrilled this deeply personal project is being brought to fruition with passion and integrity – We look forward to collaborating with Alex and Miramax to create a truly original movie that will captivate and surprise audiences’.” said Minghella in the THR report.
Aja, on the other hand, added: “Max’s script takes us on a very emotional journey through the deep recesses of the mind and on a suspenseful Hitchcockian ride. I was drawn to the poignant family drama and the supernatural elements, and am excited to bring this rich and complex story to life.”
Minghella will co-produce the pic with Antcolony Films’ Tim Bricknell (““The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency) along with Brightlight Pictures’ Shawn Williamson (“50/50”) and Aja. The film will be execuively produced by Rosanne Korenberg and Miramax’s EVP Zanne Devine will oversee the studio and Sierra/Affinity will handle international sales.
