First-Ever mtvU Fandom Awards Nominations

On June 19, 2014, MTV announced the official nominees for the first-ever mtvU Fandom Awards! mtvU is MTV channel’s college network which caters to the college going viewers. Read on for MNG’s report to learn more about the mtvU Fandom Awards.

The nominations list of  the mtvU Fandom Awards includes many fan favorites from “Teen Wolf” to “The Vampire Diaries” to “The Hunger Games.”

In mtvU’s first-ever Fandom Awards, four categories of nominees have been released, with more to follow soon. Hence, super fans worldwide can vote for awards in following categories:

  1. OMG Moment of the Year
  2. Breakout Fandom of the Year
  3. Fandom Feat of the Year
  4. Ship of the Year

“The first-ever mtvU Fandom Awards will honor diehard fangirls and fanboys as well as their favorite shows and movies in a 60-minute special worthy of big-time feels. With a performance from multi-platinum rock band Linkin Park as well as surprises that will set fandom hearts a-flutter, this will be a series finale status can’t-miss event,” said MTV about the Fandom Awards.

The fan-voted awards will take place at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, 2014 inside Petco Park. The hour-long special deferred telecast of the mtvU awards will be aired on Sunday, July 27, 2014 on MTV.

Stiles and Derek from “Teen Wolf” are nominated for “Ship of the Year” in opposition to Damon and Elena from “The Vampire Diaries.”  The noteworthy point is that fans can vote for an unlimited number of times for their multiple favorite nominees in each category. This would generate strong competition among the most fanatical fandoms. Voting has already started and it ends when the show airs in July 27, 2014 at at 8:00 pm ET/PT.

Ship of the Year

  • Stiles/Derek “Sterek” (“Teen Wolf”)
  • Dean/Castiel “Destiel” (“Supernatural”)
  • Sherlock/John Watson “Johnlock” (“Sherlock”)
  • Damon/Elena “Delena” (“The Vampire Diaries”)
  • Katniss Everdeen/Peeta Mellark “Everlark” (“The Hunger Games”)

Fandom Feat of the Year

  • “Veronica Mars” – enthusiasts were triumphant in funding a Kick starter campaign to create the “Veronica Mars” film
  • “Teen Wolf” –  a fund of approximately $25,000 was raised by fans to build a wolf sanctuary
  • “Community” – The fans petitioned for more episodes and helped to keep the show on the air. The fandom also got back the original writer Dan Harmon
  • “Hannibal” – Fans’ influence was responsible to get the show renewed for a second season
  • “Supernatural” – along with the followers of the paranormal series, Mischa Collins created “Random Acts,” to raise money for philanthropic initiatives

OMG Moment of the Year

  • “Star Wars” –  New cast photo
  • “Breaking Bad” – Series finale
  • ‘Game of Thrones” –  The Purple Wedding
  • “How I Met Your Mother” – Series finale
  • “Batfleck” Ben Affleck cast in “Batman v. Superman”

Breakout Fandom of the Year

  • “Hannibal”
  • “Orphan Black”
  • “Sleepy Hollow”
  • “Frozen”
  • “Bates Motel”
