Looks like Brad Pitt is not the only one set for the big screen as his partner in life, Angelina Jolie, is behind the overall direction of the World War II movie “Unbroken.” The story is the film adaptation based on true events that transpired in the life of Louis Zamperini.
Taking a look at the trailer, it showcases Zamperini in his childhood, going through his training as an Olympic runner in 1936. He was later on drafted odd into the World War II after the bombing of Pearl Harbor as he undertakes aerial combats aboard a U.S. Air Force bomber on top of the Pacific. It then showed how his plane crashed into the ocean, which was followed by his capture and imprisonment in the hands of the Japanese military.
World War II is certainly filled with untold stories, and this film shares another angle in the facets of war as it’s based on the novel by Laura Hillenbrand “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption.” Hillenbrand is also the author of another bestselling true-to-life novel and movie, “Seabiscuit.”
The world-renowned actress is no neophyte when it comes to directing martial arts films with the way she handled the Serbian war drama “In the Land of Blood and Honey” in 2011. However, the huge aerial action sequences and the lucid presentation of the Pacific in “Unbroken” will make a huge mark in the actress’ directing role for the third time. She admitted that directing the film had to be the hardest she has yet to have done.
“It’s a huge responsibility to get it right… I love [Zamperini] so much and he’s helped me so much in my life,” said the actress in an interview, as published in The Guardian.
According to The Guardian, Angelina seems to have her heart set on what she is doing at the moment, that is, directing films. This then lead her to the idea that she might be assuming the significant behind-the-scene role from here on out and could possibly retire the on-screen roles for good.
The movie showcases the acting of Jack O’Connell who plays the momentous role as Zamperini. He is joined by Garrett Hedlund, Domhnall Gleeson, Jai Courtney, Luke Treadaway and Alex Russell. The screenplay is penned by Joel and Ethan Coen. The release of “Unbroken” is said to be poignant, as it is to honor the life of the war hero who recently passed last July 2, 2014. It shall be released in the theaters by December 25, 2014.
