Roadside Flix has released the first official trailer of “Mr. Holmes” online starring “The Hobbit’s” Ian Mckellen. The crime-drama-mystery film is based on the 2005 novel “A Slight Trick of the Mind” written by Mitch Cullin. Set in 1947, the pic will follow the long-retired Sherlock Holmes, now aged 93, where he lives in a remote Sussex farmhouse along with his housekeeper, Mrs. Munro, and her young son, Roger.
The movie follows Holmes as he reflects and recollects on his life through writing in his journals, while tending to his bees as well as dealing with the deterioration of his once incredible mind. Much like in the novel, the film will feature flashbacks going in between time periods, seeing Holmes when he was in his late 40’s, still at the height of his fame and mental ability at his Baker Street consulting rooms, and in his early 90’s in his Sussex home as well as journeys to Japan. Check out the trailer below.
The film stars Ian Mckellen as the titular Sherlock Holmes, Colin Starkey as Dr. John Watson, Hiroyuki Sanada as Matsuda Umezaki, Frances de la Tour as Madame Schirmer, Milo Parker as Roger Munro, Hattie Morahan, Patrick Kennedy, Roger Allam and Phil Davis, plus a cameo from Nicholas Rowe as the matinee Sherlock.
“Mr. Holmes” is directed by Bill Condon, who known for his directing and writing for critically acclaimed films such as “Gods and Monsters,” “Chicago,” “Kinsey” and “Dreamgirls” and the last two installments of the “Twilight” series: “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” Principal photography began on July 5, 2014, and was set for a seven-week shoot on location in London and on the south coast of England. “Mr. Holmes” is produced by Iain Canning, Anne Carey and Emile Sherman and written by Condon and Jeffrey Hatcher.
“Mr. Holmes” will premiere at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival set for a February 2015 release.
