Now that the multiverse has now been established, and with things escalating with new revelations, allies, romances, and metahumans, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and the rest of the team sure have a lot cut out for them, even though the season is only currently five seasons in. However, now that the team is more or less finally working together with each other to help save Central City and the multiverse, and with new mentors working with the team, the next couple of episodes will no doubt prove to be more exciting than the other. WARNING: This article will contain regarding “The Flash” Season 2 Episode 5 “The Darkness and the Light”, and will contain spoilers for upcoming episodes of the second season. Read on to learn more about what will be happening next to Barry and the gang.
The previous episode gave fans and viewers some interesting revelations and points to think about, from Cisco Ramone (Carlos Valdez) getting outed as a metahuman, that interesting date that Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) had with fellow police detective Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten), and the interesting revelations as to why Earth Two’s Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) is particularly obsessed with Zoom. It turned out that Wells wants to find Zoom in order to save his daughter, who had gotten kidnapped by Zoom. However, despite the frosty reception, and despite the fact that his attitude isn’t the best, Earth Two’s Harrison Wells nicely rounded out the team as the team’s resident mentor, alongside Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears).
The episode was also an interesting one as it centered on the theme of not being afraid of one’s capabilities and acceptance. Jay admitted his own failings as Earth Two’s resident speedster, as Barry decided to follow Wells’ advice, and as Cisco began to accept his own unique ‘Vibe’ powers.
It also revealed a very interesting new character to the mix, Dr. Light. He is basically the Earth-Two version of Linda Park (Malese Jow), Barry’s ex-girlfriend and colleague to Iris West (Candance Patton).
It seems as if all of Barry’s love interests, current, future, and past, are all intertwined together, in an interesting sort of way, especially as seen in the previous episode, when Barry and Patty were both called in after Dr. Light tried to murder her Earth-One version, in front of Iris.
According to TV Line’s recent interview with actress Candace Patton and Jesse L. Martin, the daughter and father pair will have different reactions with regards to Barry’s and Patty’s budding relationship.
Patton mentioned that the current love triangle between them is the reverse of the love triangle that Barry and Iris were in with Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) in the picture and reassured TV Line that Iris if very much supportive of Barry’s relationship with Patty.
However, fans and viewers shouldn’t expect Iris and Patty to become best friends anytime soon, but the beginnings of an interesting relationship will begin during the second season.
Meanwhile, Martin’s Detective Joe West will have a different take on the matter. After being supportive, he won’t be so much so after realizing that it might not be a good idea after all.
The next episode, entitled “Enter Zoom”, according to both the press release and the promotional video released on Spoiler TV will prove to be a riveting one. The team formulates a plan to lure Zoom in so that Barry could finally confront him, and put an end to all of this.
It also shows that Iris will be enlisting the help of Earth One’s Linda to draw Zoom in, with Jay and Dr. Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) objecting to the risks that the plan might cost.
The promotional video shows just how dangerous it’ll get as The Flash is seen lying on the concrete, unconscious, with Linda coming face to face to Zoom himself.
